The Lewis County Nursing Home Auxiliary, Inc. is a non-for profit organization hat is independent from, but works hand in hand with the Nursing Home. The Auxiliary has been in existence for over 20 years and has approximately 60 members to date.
We strive to enhance the residents stay in the Nursing Home, by visiting them often, holding monthly birthday parties and assisting with special events. Such as blood drives, holiday dinners, memorial services, church services each Sunday afternoon and a trim the tree party at Christmas. We also purchase items for the Home as needed. In the past we have purchased clocks, a range, a sound system, folding chairs, entertainment center, and Mr. & Mrs. Claus, just to name a few.
In 2008 we began our largest gift yet, for the residents, a large landscaped garden. We waited to give them a peaceful place to smell the roses, watch the birds and perhaps enjoy memories of days spent in their own backyards. We named our garden "Whispering Memories", knowing that with age comes whispers of our past. We started work right away, raising money and getting bids. We got the blessing of the Nursing Home and paired ourselves with a landscaper, Tom Friye owner of Bergmans Nurseries in Quincy.
We have two major fund raisers each year to fund our projects. Our Mississippi Duck Race, and the Bingo Bonanza. We also applied for a grant with USDA. The remainder of our funds come through selling engraved bricks and pavers. These can be inscribed in honor of, or in memory of people and businesses. We are proud to say we have accomplished quite alot in only two years. We have plans for an Open Garden ceremony this year. We are very proud of our garden and invite everyone to come veiw it at anytime. It is located on the back or East side of the Nursing Home.
Our wish is to give this beautiful garden, not only to the current residents but to all who will reside here, in the future. We are striving to build it with integrity to endure through the years. We honor all donors and encourage you to join us in completing this dream come true for the residents.
We hold our monthly meetings on the first Monday of the month at 2:00 pm, in the Activity Room. New members are always welcome and our annual dues are only $5:00.
Like we always say, the residents are the reason we're here. We encourage you to come for a visit and learn more about our Nursing Home and Auxiliary.
